Senior Human Resources Professional

Professional Background:

Bob Canuel is a bilingual senior Human Resources Professional with over 35 years of business experience. He has been described as a strategic leader with a successful and practical record of initiating and managing best in class HR practices, while always ensuring attainment of corporate objectives. Bob has a reputation of being a visionary builder and leader with a broad based experience in Organizational Effectiveness, HR Planning, Executive Coaching, Employee / Labour Relations, Total Rewards, Change Management and Learning, and Development.

Throughout his career Mr. Canuel has been a leader in employee relations in Canada. In 1975 he was elected to the newly created position of Ombudsman at Kraft Foods Ltd. During this time, he also negotiated the first Language agreement with the Quebec Government for Kraft Foods Ltd. He has taught Human Resources and Labour Management courses at the community college level, as well as being a speaker at various professional conferences on innovative HR practices.

In addition, Mr. Canuel has a long and successful history on boards of “Not-for-Profit” and Professional Associations, such as CSTD ( Canadian Society for Training and Development – 2500 members); HRPA (Human Resources Professional Association – 20,000 members); Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (Publishing), as well as numerous other charities. He took early retirement, in January 2010, from Hallmark Canada, where he was Vice-President of Human Resources for 13 years.


Education/ Professional Certificate:

Mr. Canuel is a graduate of Concordia University with a B.A., and a graduate of the McGill University Executive MBA Program. He has participated in numerous Governance programs offered through McMaster–Conference Board of Canada Directors College (Currently on the faculty of Directors College); and a graduate of the IOG–HRPA Board Governance program. Mr. Canuel possesses the designation of CHRP, and awarded the SHRP in recognition for his expertise in H.R.


Board Experience:

It is because of his reputation and business experience that Mr. Canuel has been recruited to sit on various Corporate Boards of Directors, in the Automotive parts (Wescast Inc.); Plastics (Polytainers Inc.); Retail (Hallmark Canada Ltd.); and the Food sector – i.e. (David’s Condiments). He has chaired and been a member of the compensation committees, along with his general board responsibilities for these organizations.

In addition, Bob is a Member of the Sub-Committee on Compensation with the College of Nurses of Ontario; Chair of the CHRE Evaluation Committee at the Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario, in tandem to Chair/Panel Member of the HRPA Discipline Hearings; and, Prior Chair of the Municipality of Brighton’s Physician Recruitment Committee. He is currently providing Coaching Services to senior level executives in Ontario.

In tandem to being a professional associate of the firm, he now runs a Human Resources and Governance practice, with select clients across Canada.
